2nd International Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh

Objective ; To open a new world of cinema to the children of
Bangladesh and to give them an exposure to
culture and tradition of different countries through
cinema.

Dates : January 24 - 30, 2009

Nature : Generally non-competitive. Audience award will be given by the popular votes of child audience. Besides, a competition will be held for the films made by Bangladeshi children. Feature, short, animation and documentary films suitable for children will be shown in the festival.

With the slogan "Future in Frames," 2nd International Children's Film Festival '09 will start on January 24. Organised by Children's Film Society Bangladesh and supported by Unicef, the weeklong festival will end on January 30. Over 120 feature, documentary, short and animation films from 40 countries will be screened at the festival, which is the first and only of its kind in the country. Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed will inaugurate the festival.

At a press conference held yesterday at Dhaka Reporters' Unity, Shegun Bagicha, the organisers informed the press about the festival. Eminent media personality and president of the advisory committee of the festival, Mustafa Monwar; festival director and noted filmmaker Morshedul Islam; festival adviser Farah Kabir, who is also the country director of ActionAid; Sheikh Sajid, festival co-ordinator and Munira Morshed, general secretary of Children's Film Society Bangladesh were present at the press conference.

This year the festival will take place at six venues in the city -- Shawkat Osman Auditorium, Central Public Library, British Council, Goethe-Institut, Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Iranian Cultural Centre and Alliance Francaise de Dacca. The Central Public Library premises will be used as the main venue of the festival.

Everyday films will be screened in four sessions -- at 11am, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. The festival is open for all children.

A special segment of this year's festival will feature films directed by child filmmakers of Bangladesh. Fifteen films will be screened in this segment amongst which five will be selected for awards.

Participation of children from across the country is another highpoint of the festival. A daylong seminar will be held on January 27 at the seminar Hall, Public Library.

Apart from Unicef, the festival is also supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation, ActionAid Bangladesh, Save the Children Sweden-Denmark, G.E.C Bangaladesh, BRAC and Nijera Kori.

The first Children's Film Festival was held last year.
